The idea of living life to the fullest on Saturday night is a common theme in country music. It dates back to many years ago, before artists like Sam Hunt were making their own country songs about Saturday night. That being said, it’s time to take a look at some of the best Saturday night country songs. Whether it’s a song about Saturday night in a small country town, or the joys of drinking beer and dancing, these songs will all get you pumped for the best day of the week. We’ve included Saturday night country party songs like Florida Georgia Line’s “Round Here”, as well as classics like “Louisiana Saturday Night” by Mel McDaniel.

1. Sam Hunt - Saturday Night

Written before he gained mass popularity, Sam Hunt’s “Saturday Night” originally appeared on his Before the Pines acoustic mixtape. The song is themed around youth and living it up on a Saturday night, making it something we can all relate to, but its laidback acoustic sound makes it stand out from the crowd. With lines like “I got a clean t-shirt and shot of cologne, we’re way too young to be sitting at home” the track is clever, catchy, and has a great pulse throughout.

2. Hal Ketchum - Small Town Saturday Night

“Small Town Saturday Night” was Hal Ketchum’s debut single in 1991 appearing on the album Past the Point of Rescue. The song is about a group of friends trying to have fun on a Saturday night in their small town, a common theme in country music. “Small Town Saturday Night” was written by Pat Alger and Hank DeVito, and it peaked at #2 on Billboard’s US Hot Country Songs.

3. James Otto - Sunday Morning And Saturday Night

“Sunday Morning and Saturday Night” tells the story of a father caught between two extremes. He reads the bible and praises the lord, but also gets drunk and gets into trouble. His son tries to learn how to walk the line between “saint and sinner, wrong and right, Sunday morning and Saturday night” as his father told him, but he finds that it takes him some years before he starts to understand the message.

4. Pee Wee King - We’re Gonna Go Fishin'(Next Saturday Night)

A hillbilly swing tune from the 1950s that’s made to dance to, “We’re Gonna Go Fishin’ (Next Saturday Night)” is all about leaving dancing behind and “goin’ fishin’ to fish.”

5. George Strait - Honky Tonk Saturday Night

In keeping with country music tradition, “Honky Tonk Saturday Night” is about a night out filled with possibility and romance. The song was first recorded on Strait’s fourth studio album Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind, and can honestly be summed up by saying “this song is about a guy drinking at a bar and hoping that he brings a girl home”.  But hey, it’s also about dancing, listening to great music, and enjoying yourself on Saturday night, and is a pretty timeless tune.

6. Brad Paisley - American Saturday Night

“American Saturday Night” is the title track to Paisley’s seventh studio album. The upbeat song celebrates the diversity of American traditions, many borrowed from other cultures and made our own. It’s a song about acceptance of other cultures that asks us to think about how many “foreign” customs we embrace here in the United States, that uses wordplay like “It’s a French kiss, Italian ice, Spanish moss in the moonlight” to prove it.

7. Conway Twitty - Saturday Night Special

Depicting the darker side of country music, the title of Twitty’s “Saturday Night Special” refers to a cheap handgun he’s going to use to commit suicide after a failed relationship. Instead, he helps a young woman in the pawn shop and the song ends when they run off to Texas together. This song is atmospherically beautiful and suspenseful, and there’s a reason why it’s a favorite among so many Conway Twitty fans.

8. Reba McEntire - It Always Rains on Saturday

Country music star Reba McEntire is known for her heartfelt songs, and “It Always Rains on Saturday” is no different. In the song, rain becomes a metaphor for the sadness of a mother sending her son to be with his father every Saturday. This isn’t necessarily a “Saturday night” song, but we wanted to include it since it’s a great Saturday country song.

9. Florida Georgia Line - Round Here

A perfect country Saturday night party song, “Round Here” debuted on Florida Georgia Line’s first album Here’s to the Good Times in 2012. The song is bursting with country themes, like working hard, creating your own fun in a small town, and of course, romance. It epitomizes what the bro country genre is all about, but if you can take it for what it’s worth this is a very fun and catchy song. “Round Here” really solidified FGL’s status as a force to be reckoned with in the country music world, as it was their third consecutive #1 on the Country Airplay charts.

10. Mel McDaniel - Louisiana Saturday Nights

One of Mel McDaniel’s best-known songs, “Louisiana Saturday Night” was recorded to his album I’m Countryfied in 1980. The upbeat rhythm and perfect contentedness of the lyrics will have you tapping your foot to the beat, whether you want to or not. With lyrics like “My brother Bill and my other brother Jack / Barrel full of beer and a possum in a sack / Fifteen kids in the front porch light / Louisiana Saturday Night” the song is funny, charming, and will probably be stuck in your head for the rest of the day. You’re welcome.
